Week Sixteen Highlight

I saw Miroslav Tichy in New York and i really felt inspired.

I thought back to my work on my playing cards (The First Image) and how they were slightly similar. I love the texture in the images as well as the imperfections.

I think I really liked Miroslav Tichy's work because i knew that he made everything himself. For example his camera's, enlargers and paper. I find that really fascinating.

Week Fifteen Highlight

I saw Deborah Turbeville when i was in New York and i really loved her work. I thought they were very playful and exciting images. I love how the light makes these images seem so much more interesting and the smoke makes it more dramatic, gives it more atmosphere.

I would like to try doing a shoot with location lighting in the future because it seems to have more of an impact of me.

Week Ten Highlight

I met Phillip Toledano in New York last week and thouht his talk was amazing. I thought he told us so much to do with ourselves and that we should go with whatever feels right with us. I thought it really inspired me.

He talked about a new project he was doing on different beauty and i thought they were really good. I loved how he talked about making his images similar to 18th century dutch paintings.

Week Nine Highlight

I saw Joyce Tenneson's work in a 'The Polaroid Book' and loved her work instantly. I say it thinking that they looked so delicate and soft which gave them a painterly feel to them. This image is one of many examples. i really love her use of portraiture, making the women look classically beautiful. I would love to be able to create the same effect in my images.

Week Eight Highlight

I really like this blog mainly because it's more visual than written. I Love some of the images that she finds and posts, she also finds quotes and poems that i also really like. The only thing i don't really like is the fact there never is a name by the image so you can never find the photographer.

Week Seven Highlight

Tulsa by Larry Clark is a book that i have been trying to get my hands on for a while and finally have it. I'm not a great fan of Documentary but this collection of work is so shocking that i like it. This image is one of many that scare me, the reality of it.

Week Six Highlight

Vee Speers is another photographer that I really like. This is one of the images from her series called 'The Birthday Party'.
I really love her use of props and expressions that she uses. I also love them technically. They are slightly bleached out but also full of colour. I would like to try this technique in some of my portraits only i don't know how. I will have to look into it.
